I had high hopes. ...

I had high hopes. They tried... Mostly. We booked a 2 room suite with a kitchen for 4 nights at this hotel in Brea because our house was being tented and my children are distance learning. The room itself was quite comfortable. The first night was a bit chilly. My husband discovered that the heating in the room with the king bed was broken. He called maintenance and since they had to order parts they gave us a room heater unit. They get points for that. It was nice for keeping the room bearably warm, but not for trying to sleep. It woke us both up at some point over the next 3 nights. As for the location of the room. We were facing Imperial, a very busy truck route. I probably could have said something, but they were a small hotel and were probably limited in how many rooms had our setup. The noise with the door open was impossibly loud, however, and we could not keep the door open on the sunny, California, spring days because of it. Another location would probably have been more quiet. No points deducted. As the week rolled on, we needed to extend our stay because the tenting got extended. Here is where we get to the 3 stars. When we booked the room/checked in, it was stated that we needed a late checkout (3pm) due to the school circumstances. Verbally we were given the green light. When it was brought up later that week, no one had any clue who had confirmed that checkout time, and they were unyielding when we asked again for a late checkout. We were told that the latest would be 11am. I explained our situation and the need for wifi, and in an effort to be accommodating, that we were willing to use a different room for the extension of our stay. My only request was that I could still have somewhere for my children to be in class. I was met with complete indifference. I was told, basically, that it wasn't their problem, that I should just go out and have some lunch, and, in effect, be elsewhere. This was even after explaining what my needs were and that I was willing to be flexible for the hotel... Above his pay grade? Points deducted. It wasn't until I talked to a supervisor that I was met with some flexibility, but only 30 minutes more. In order to make that work, my husband had to take time off work. For the amount of money we paid for the room, I would have preferred to have even the desk staff be a little more accommodating. I do think things changed when I mentioned the handling of the situation by the desk staff would affect my review of the hotel. Now to the rest of the 3 stars... Earlier in the week another business had cancelled our booking due to unforseen repairs and weather-that never actually happened (checkout my review of Euclid Hand Carwash). So we still needed an interior detail of our cars. After the drama with checkout time, I was pleasantly surprised to find the hotel willing to allow a mobile car detail company to come to the hotel to provide services. For our extension, however, I booked elsewhere. All in all, if you have special circumstances for your stay that require handling with kid gloves, think twice. But if you don't need much more than a room in which to stay, go ahead. You decide. This was just my experience.
